Significance

Faber and co-workers report a bioreduction of aliphatic secondary nitro compounds catalyzed by purified flavoproteins from the old yellow enzyme family providing the corresponding carbonyl compounds. NADH, NADPH, or the oxidized forms NAD+ and NAD(P)+ were used in combination with a recycling enzyme as cofactor. Primary nitroalkanes and short chain secondary analogues were not converted under the described conditions.
