Significance

The preparation of 1,4-dihydroquinoline derivatives via iron oxide nanoparticle catalyzed intermolecular C-N cross-coupling reaction was described. Thus, the reaction of o-halobenzaldehydes 1A-C (0.25 mmol) and 3-arylamino-5,5-dimethylcyclohexen-2-ones 2a-j (0.5 mmol) was performed with nano-Fe3O4 (10 mol%) and Cs2CO3 (0.75 mmol) to give the corresponding products 3Aa-Cj in 47-89% yield (30 examples).
