Significance

Organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) often display significantly reduced carrier mobilities in film state than in crystalline state due to loss of order. The authors report a cruciform 6,6′-dipentacenyl derivative (Dip-TIPS) as a potential two-dimensional isotropic organic semiconducting material which may alleviate such loss in carrier mobility by π-stacking in two directions in film state. Although the carrier mobility is modest (0.08 cm²Vs), this approach merits attention for its potentials.
