Significance

Reported is the synthesis of two types of indoloazepines from simple condensation of the 1H-indole-2-carbonitrile common intermediate with aromatic-acyl bromides. The N-substituted intermediate derivate is then subjected to reaction with either hydrazine hydrate (as solvent as well as reagent) to give the [1,2,5]-triazepines or with hydroxylamine hydrochloride to give the [1,2,5]-oxadiazine derivatives.
