Significance

Borasiloxane cages were synthesized by a simple cyclocondensation and subsequently electropolymerized into thin films. A through-space coupling between the two π-conjugated fragments exists despite the long B-to-B distance of almost 4 Å. Finally, the films exhibit a reversible colorimetric response to volatile amines and other Lewis bases.
