Diastereoselective Hydroarylation for the Synthesis of Dihydrocoumarins

Significance

The authors report a diastereoselective hydroarylation of benzylidene malonic esters for the synthesis of dihydrocoumarins. Catalytic hydroarylation of benzylidene malonates has not been previously observed with phenolic nucleophiles, thus the authors have expanded the scope of such methodology.
