Significance

(-)-FR182877 was obtained from Streptomyces sp. no. 9885. It shows cytotoxicity against human cancer cell lines, comparable to that of Taxol, by binding and stabilizing microtubules. In this synthesis, the ABCD ring system was constructed in a single operation via consecutive intramolecular Diels-Alder (IMDA) cycloadditions.
