Introduction

Since the first report of a laparoscopic sigmoid resection was published [6], this procedure has become increasingly accepted for the treatment of benign and malignant disease of the sigmoid colon. The recent advances in techniques and refinements in the equipment used have led to a significant expansion in the indications for laparoscopic surgery, not only in adults, but also in the pediatric population. In addition, a prolapsing technique has been developed for use in laparoscopic endorectal pull-through to treat Hirschsprung’s disease in children [8].

This report describes a 10-year-old boy who presented with recurrent large bowel obstruction due to a sigmoid colon volvulus; he was successfully treated by laparoscopic sigmoidectomy using a prolapsing technique that is widely used for the definitive operation of Hirschsprung’s disease.
