Acetylation of Alcohols by a Heterogeneous Cobalt(II) Salen Complex

Significance

Acetylation of various alcohols 2 took place in the presence of immobilized ­cobalt(II)-salen catalyst 1 under solvent-free ­conditions to give the corresponding acetates 3 in up to 99% yield (22 examples). Atomic absorption analysis of the reaction mixture indicated that no cobalt species had leached from the catalyst composite.
