Significance

Alkynyl Grignard reagents, obtained in situ from the corresponding terminal alkynes, react in the presence of FeCl3 with a variety of alkenyl bromides and triflates in tetrahydrofuran under mild conditions. The resulting conjugated enynes are important structural units of organic electronic materials as well as various bioactive molecules. This reaction is suitable for a broad range of substrates.
