Significance

The direct arylation of nitrobenzenes and aryl bromides occurs in good yield and very high ortho-regioselectivity. The reaction permits a gram-scale preparation of o-nitrobiaryls with only three equivalents of the nitro compound relative to the halide. The authors demonstrate the synthetic utility of this method via the rapid synthesis of a Boscalid intermediate.
