Significance

Alkylative coupling of alkynes and aldehydes in the presence of an organoalkane provides access to allylic hydroxy tetrasubstituted olefins. The authors report the first enantioselective version of this reaction with aldehydes, although imines are known (see: S. J. Patel, T. F. Jamison Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2003, 42, 1364; S. J. Patel, T. F. Jamison Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2004, 43, 3941).
