Significance

N,N-Dichloro poly(styrene-co-divinyl benzene) sulfonamide beads were found to be an efficient reagent for the synthesis of dialkyl chlorophosphates from dialkylphosphites. Thus, the reaction of dimethylphosphite 1 with an excess amount of polymeric N-chloride 2 was carried out in acetonitrile at room temperature for 3-4 hours to give methyl chlorophosphate 3 in 95% isolated yield. The transformations of several dialkylphosphites were examined under similar reaction conditions to afford the corresponding dialkyl chlorophosphates in high yield (11 examples: 92-98% isolated yield).
