Significance

A gold catalyst supported on zeolite (Au/beta-NH4 +) was prepared by treatment of zeolite beta-NH4 + with HAuCl4 in the presence of NaOH (pH = 8.5). The intramolecular cycloisomerization of γ-acetylenic carboxylic acid 1 was carried out with Au/beta-NH4 + (1.5 mol% Au) to give the corresponding γ-lactones 2 in 25-99% yield (7 examples).
