Significance

The authors report the synthesis of a new diamine monomer that contains six sulfur atoms. The high sulfur content is necessary to produce polyimides with a large refractive index. Monomer 3 polymerized with three different dianhydrides with aromatic cores, one of which is shown above, to obtain polyimide films with a ­refractive index greater than 1.7.
