Significance
Sanguiin H-5 is a member of the ellagitannin class of hydrolyzable plant polyphenols. The key step in the synthesis by Spring and co-workers is the atropdiastereoselective oxidative biaryl coupling of the diarylcuprate B using the 3,5-dinitrobenzamide derivative C as the oxidant.
