Feminismus und Sexualpolitik: Die #MeToo-Bewegung und ihre Kritiker_innen [ 1 ]
Feminism and Sexual Politics: The #MeToo Movement and Its CriticsWidmung
In Memoriam Sophinette Becker
Abstract
This essay takes stock of the first two years of debates surrounding the #MeToo movement in the United States. It documents many successes of the movement – in raising awareness and developing solidarities, in bringing perpetrators to justice or forcing their resignations, and in changing laws and policies. But the essay also surveys the concerns of many sex-positive feminist, anti-racist, and queer critics of the movement and their reflections on the larger troubles within US sexual culture that the movement has exposed. Exploring the themes of deeroticization, instrumentalization, and distraction and displacement, the essay analyzes as well how the existence of the #MeToo movement has become weaponized especially by antifeminists within partisan political conflict. And it makes a case for the importance of situating the discussion of #MeToo in the wider context of labor rights and current economic and political conditions in the US.
