Traumafolgestörungen werden oftmals als stressassoziierte seelische Erkrankungen verstanden. Neben den psychischen Symptomen bietet die Stressforschung wichtige Einblicke in biopsychologische Veränderungen der Traumafolgestörungen, die über das hinausgehen, was von Patientinnen und Patienten berichtet werden kann. Der Beitrag stellt Stressmodelle und zentrale Forschungsbefunde vor und diskutiert Fragen der Reversibilität veränderter Stressachsenregulation.
