Four different modalities of high frequency induced thermal therapy (HITT) for the treatment of primary and secondary liver tumours are discussed. 25 patients have been treated with HITT under US guidance in our center for a period of 1 year. These modalities are as follows:

  • Monopolar HITT (Berthold Electric Systems Tubingen)

  • Bipolar HITT with two monopolar electrodes (Berthold Electric Systems)

  • Bipolar HITT (Radionics systems with umbrella type electrodes)

  • Bipolar HITT (Celon-Olympus system)

12 patients were treated with monopolar and 13 with multilocular HITT techniques.

The results are presented and summarized as thermal monotherapy and a combined approach (HITT, chemotherapy, surgical treatment).
