Significance

The ability to construct highly complex building blocks quickly without purification has become increasingly more attractive as the yields and diastereoselectivites have increased. The authors describe efficient syntheses which employ several asymmetric conjugate addition and subsequent diastereoselective allylation reactions. Furthermore, they show the application of this system to the synthesis of a spirocyclic compound only performing one purification over four steps.
