Significance

The author has recently reported a non-catalyzed allylic alkylation (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2006, 45, 1469-1473) and now expands the scope by discussing amination of allylic carbonates. The reported method is particularly valuable as the newly formed C-N bond is created at the same C atom that has a C-O bond, in analogy with reactions promoted by rhodium. For a review on allylic aminations, see: M. Johannsen, K. A. Jørgensen Chem. Rev. 1998, 98, 1689-1708.
