  • Zentrale Größe zur Beurteilung der Sauerstoffversorgung ist der Sauerstoffgehalt.

  • Herzpumpe und Atempumpe hängen funktionell eng zusammen.

  • Auch stark hyperkapnische Werte führen nicht zu dauerhaften Schäden, wenn keine Hypoxie vorliegt.

  • Inspiratorische Sauerstoffkonzentrationen auf der Intensivstation sollten immer unter 50 % liegen (Ausnahme: akute Situationen). Ein ARDS entsteht vermutlich öfter durch zu hohe inspiratorische Sauerstoffgaben und zu hohe Beatmungsdrucke als durch die Erkrankung.

  • Ein Cor pulmonale bei chronischer Hypoxämie ist ein sinnvoller Anpassungsmechanismus, der nicht behandelt werden muss. Es bildet sich wieder zurück, wenn sich die Grunderkrankung bzw. die damit verbundene Hypoxämie bessert.
