Kapselendoskopie des Kolons – Update 2013
Capsule Endoscopy of the Colon – Update 2013Publikationsverlauf

Abstract
The new generation of colon capsule provides an alternative, safe and non-invasive option for the visualization of the colonic mucosa. Recommendations on indication and execution have been summarized concisely in a guideline published in 2012 by the ESGE. In case of contraindications or incomplete colonoscopy, the colon capsule is a reasonable alternative and complement to conventional colonoscopy. Currently, a recommendation on monitoring inflammatory bowel disease by the colon capsule is not available because of insufficient data, although some studies have reported of a correlation between capsule and colonoscopy findings. With the introduction of colon capsule endoscopy a higher participation in screening for colorectal cancer may be achieved. Further studies are needed to show if there are extended fields of application for colon capsule endoscopy.
