Introduction
Eosinophilic granuloma (EG), a localized clinical form of Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH), is characterized by one or more destructive lesions with many eosinophilic cells. Vertebral involvement has been reported in about 8–25% of cases [1]. Surgery is usually not recommended without neurological involvement. Patients with a solitary spinal lesion have been treated with anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion using miniplate and screws [2], curettage with or without fusion [3], or resection of the vertebra combined with discectomy and bone graft [4]. Percutaneous vertebroplasty has also been used [5]. We describe a patient with EG of a cervical vertebral body who was treated with spinal fusion using mesh cage and plate fixation. This specific procedure has not been previously reported for the treatment of EG of the cervical spine.
