Significance

Formamides can be successfully added to alkynes to give (E)-α,β-unsaturated amides with high regio- and stereoselectivity. For the first time, an addition to terminal alkynes could also be performed. This is a simple and useful method for the preparation of polysubstituted acrylic derivatives with good stereo- and regiocontrol.
