Significance
The development of a straightforward and traceless methodology for the synthesis of isocoumarin derivatives was described. Thus, treatment of Wang resin supported alkynes 3 with electrophiles (ICl, I2, CuCl2, CuBr2, or TFA) gave the corresponding 3-substituted 4-haloisocoumarins 4 in up to >99% yield (59 examples).
