Significance

The authors have developed the first catalytic asymmetric addition of terminal alkynes to β-imino esters. The corresponding β-amino esters were obtained in excellent yields and good enantioselectivities. Furthermore, the β-imino esters were easily prepared by means of a modified Reformatsky reaction (see Scheme).
