Summary

The therapeutic possibilities in view of the low toxicity and the pharmacological characteristics of Rauwolfia grown in The Sudan can be summarised as follows:

  1. The extract after removal of its resin can be used therapeutically for the treatment of intestinal colic and diarrhoea as it possesses anticholinergic properties.

  2. It can also be employed in conditions associated with arterial hypertension as it possesses hypotensive activity.

  3. It can be used for asthma as it dilates the bronchioles demonstrated by increased amplitude of the respiratory movements.

  4. The extract can be used also as antispasmodic in spasmodic conditions as it possesses spasmolytic action.

Zusammenfassung

Eine im Sudan heimische Rauwolfia–Art, möglicherweise mit Rauwolfia vomitoria identisch, wurde pharmakologisch getestet.

Die Wirkung eines alkoholischen Extraktes auf die Darmmuskulatur, den Uterus, auf Blutdruck und Atmung und als Anthelminticum wird beschrieben.
