Significance

The authors report a simple and environmentally benign protocol for the arylation of amines and pyrrole by variously substituted aryl and heteroaryl bromides and iodides in water using ligandless copper(I) as a catalyst and Bu4NOH as a base. The simplicity and versatility of the ­reaction makes it well suitable for industrial processes.
