Significance
A highly selective hydroformylation of vinylarenes to branched aldehydes was described. The immobilized rhodium catalyst was obtained as an orange ceramic material by co-entrapment of a [RhCl(cod)]2, Na[Ph2P-3-(C6H4SO3)], prehydrolyzed Si(OMe)4, and 1-butyl-3-[3-(trimethoxy)propyl]imidazolium chloride in THF. The hydroformylation of various vinylarenes with hydrogen gas (6.9 bar) and carbon monoxide (6.9 bar) were carried out in the presence of the immobilized rhodium catalyst in n-heptane to give the corresponding branched aldehydes with high yield and high selectivity.
