Summary
Evidence from three small cohort studies, class of evidence (CoE) I - III, indicates that younger adults who had delayed surgical treatment for hip fracture appear to have had no difference in rates of nonunion or avascular necrosis compared with those with early surgical intervention. Methodologically rigorous comparative studies with larger sample sizes and which adjust for potential confounding factors are needed to further validate these observations.
