Significance
Transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of allylic substrates have attracted great interest as easy and useful ways for the construction of carbon frameworks in complex molecules. Especially interesting is the application of less common transition-metals, other than Pd and Ni, for the performance of cross-coupling reactions. This work describes a number of Co- and Rh-catalyzed reactions of allylic ethers and halides with Grignard reagents. Besides being interesting from a methodological point of view, it affords some useful synthetic protocols for the preparation of substituted alkenes and dienes starting from organomagnesium reagents.
