Abstract:

In voiding dysfunction of the bladder clean intermittent catheterization (CIC) is a common treatment irregardless of the cause. Dependent on compliance of the patient, this is carried out more or less strictly. Even in correct handling of CIC, infections and consecutive problems may result. Recurrent infection may lead to a contracted bladder requiring urinary diversion. In each individual case, the right time for diversion has to be found, to prevent the patient from a history of numerous physician consultations and multiple surgical interventions. Our case shows impressively the odyssey of a female patient, which began with a „simple” bladder voiding dysfunction and resulted in urinary diversion after 12 operations, accompained by many complications in a period of 15 years. This report hopes to encourage the consideration of alternative therapeutical measures in patients with long-term bladder voiding dysfunction.
