Significance
Peptides composed with β-amino acids play a significant role in peptide drug design and they are key building blocks for the synthesis of biologically active peptide molecules. In this study, the authors adopted the Arndt–Eistert homologation strategy of α-amino acids for the synthesis of β-amino acids.

Comment
Arndt–Eistert homologation series of α-amino acids proceeded smoothly to produce corresponding β-amino acids in good yields. This process is inexpensive due to the use of Boc2O as a coupling reagent. This is a racemization-free and cost-effective method for the synthesis of β-amino acids.
