Skull Base Reconstruction

The skull base literally represents the seat of the brain. It is a relatively fragile area through which all that passes to and from the brain traverses. It is uncommonly affected by trauma and more commonly by surgical removal of tumors or other skull base lesions. Reconstruction of this area can be difficult mostly due to access and ability to secure any reconstruction in a water-tight fashion. In this issue, we are blessed to have the pleasure of having a broad field multispecialty approach to one of the most difficult areas to reconstruct. I hope that the readers will enjoy this special issue as much as we all did putting it together. Hopefully, it will serve as a nice reference when approaching skull base defects.
