I want to thank Dr. Douglas Marx for serving as guest editor for this issue of Seminars in Plastic Surgery on “Oculofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.” We also appreciate the efforts made by each outstanding author for sharing with us their knowledge and expertise.
Dr. Marx is an assistant professor at the Cullen Eye Institute, Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He obtained his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, where he graduated with honors and was inducted into the Medical Honor Society, Alpha Omega Alpha. Following medical school, he completed his ophthalmology residency at Baylor College of Medicine, where he was a recipient of the Stephen N. Schindler Award for high ethical and humane standards. He then finished his fellowship training in Oculofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Oregon Health and Sciences Casey Eye Institute in Portland, where he received a distinguished service award and the Fellow of the Year Award for Excellence in Education.
Dr. Marx's research interests include congenital ptosis, orbital diseases, thyroid eye disease, orbital inflammation, and orbital neoplasms. He has a particular interest in diseases of the orbit and pediatric oculoplastic surgery.
