DUDS’ 40 years anniversary

This year, the Danish Society of Diagnostic Ultrasound celebrates its 40 years anniversary. The society was founded 1st of February 1974 by Danish ultrasound pioneers. The society became a part of the European Society (EFSUMB) and the World Federation of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB) from the beginning. DUDS has participated in arranging many national courses and meetings and also international conferences. The International Congress on Interventional Ultrasound has been hosted 9 times – the first time in 1978. The WFUMB congress was held in Denmark in 1991 and Copenhagen hosted the EUROSON congress in 2003 and 2010.

Many ultrasound-guided procedures were invented and performed for the first time in Denmark and DUDS has a long tradition for supporting research in ultrasound. In 1979 a travelling grant was created, and every year DUDS supports congress participation for researchers. In 2006 collaboration with the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM) began, and several researchers from Denmark and Australia have been exchanged.
