Summary

Numerous oral chondroprotective substances like glycosaminoglycans, New Zealand green-lipped mussel, omega-3 fatty acids, gelatine or herbs that may influence osteoarthritis are frequently supplemented in horses. The widespread use is mismatched by the lack of scientific data about efficacy, dosing regime and side effects of oral chondroprotective agents in horses.
