Der Einsatz einer neuen Generation von Krebsmedikamenten, die aufgrund ihres Designs mit einer spezifischen molekularen Zielstruktur interferieren, wird unter dem weitläufigen Begriff der "Targeted Therapy" zusammengefasst. Bei den molekularen Targets handelt es sich meist um Proteine, die für das Tumorwachstum und den Progress einer Tumorerkrankung eine Schlüsselstellung einnehmen.
