Dr. Janice Rafferty is the Chief, Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery and Professor of Surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where she holds the Carl and Edyth Lindner Chair in Colon and Rectal Surgery. Janice was born in Fremont, Ohio, and received her undergraduate degree from Miami University of Ohio in Oxford. She earned her M.D. degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine, Columbus, and completed a general surgery residency at the University of Cincinnati Hospital, which included 2 years of research with Dr. Josef Fischer. Her colon and rectal surgery training was conducted at the Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center, St. Louis, Missouri. After completing her fellowship, Janice joined the faculty at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and established the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery.

Janice is board certified in both general surgery and colon and rectal surgery and is an active participant in multiple surgical societies. She is an ad hoc reviewer of several journals; her contribution to the medical literature includes over 27 peer-reviewed articles and 7 book chapters. She also produces a quarterly patient educational article in The Phoenix magazine.

Janice, her husband Donald, and their children live in Cincinnati, Ohio.
