Führt eine Leberzirrhose zu einer klinisch signifikanten portalen Hypertension, so entstehen Varizen und Aszites. Nach einer Varizenblutung oder bei therapierefraktärem Aszites kann ein transjugulärer intrahepatischer portosystemischer Shunt (TIPS) diese Komplikationen effektiv behandeln.
