Abstract

Background This article presents a conservative procedure for the modelling of anterior teeth after orthodontic treatment. For example, pivot teeth, agenesis of teeth and diastemata can lead to aesthetically and functionally unsatisfactory results despite orthodontic treatment. In addition to prosthetic and surgical solutions, composite build-ups are increasingly becoming the focus of therapy due to improved material properties.

Clinical case The clinical situation of a patient after orthodontic space closure due to agenesis of the lateral incisors was transferred to software using an impression and modelscanner to create a digital mock-up. Based on this mock-up, a translucent silicone key was subsequently fabricated, which, after appropriate preparation of the teeth, was positioned intraorally and filled with a flowable composite via injection channels.

Conclusion The direct composite injection technique is very suitable for the medium-term and minimally invasive restoration of anterior teeth. The procedure allows aesthetically good and reproducible results even for complex anterior reconstructions.
