Im Jahr 2012 wurden in den Niederlanden sechs erfahrene Experten beauftragt, Richtlinien für die Therapie von Patienten mit vorderer Kreuzbandruptur zu entwickeln. Erstmals veröffentlicht wurden diese Richtlinien im Jahr 2014. Seit die Leitlinie 2016 im British Journal of Sports Medicine veröffentlicht wurde, hat sie die Arbeit vieler Sportphysiotherapeuten auf der ganzen Welt beeinflusst.
