Abstract

Positional tests are considered to be an important component of manual therapy of cervical dysfunctions which occur in conjunction with vertigo. This first part of the article series on tests for craniocervical neck, head and facial pain or vertigo explains the application and the benefit of the test of posterior benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.

The Dix-Hallpike test or the Semont test provide a fairly reliable differentiation of the unilateral posterior benign paroxysmal positional vertigo which can be effectively treated using a repositioning manoeuvre.
