Significance

A limited number of asymmetric methods for the cyclization of polyenes have been reported, including the works developed by the groups of Yamamoto (Org. Lett. 2004, 6, 2551) and Ishihara ( Nature 2007, 445, 900). Herein, the efficient Pt-catalyzed enantioselective cation/olefin cascade cyclization of polypropenoids is reported. The authors previously reported the regio- and diastereoselective [(dppe)Pt]²+-catalyzed oxidative cascade cyclization of polyenes (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2007, 129, 11880), and this work represents the enantioselective improvement of this work.
