Significance

The authors reported a rational strategy to synthesize amphiphilic oligothiophene-C60 dyads. These dyads form photoconductive liquid crystal (LC) smectic A mesophase over a wide temperature range, thus generating bicontinuous donor-acceptor arrays. The LC structure is confirmed by polarized optical microscopy and small angle X-ray scattering.
