Abstract

In the callus culture of Catalpa ovata the following naphthoquinone congeners have been detected with the aid of GC and GC-MS techniques: menaquinone-1 (1), catalpalactone (2), α-lapachone (3), 4-hydroxy-α-lapachone (4), 9-hydroxy-α-lapachone (5), 4.9-dihydroxy-α-lapachone (6), 8-hydroxydehydro-iso-α-lapachone (9), 3.8-dihydroxydehydro-iso-α-lapachone (10) and 1-hydroxy-2-methyl-anthraquinone (12). Among them 9 and 10 have been isolated along with 8 -hydroxy -2- isopropenylfurano-naphthoquinone (13) whose structures have been established on the basis of the spectral data. Furthermore, dehydro-α-lapachone (11) was also isolated.
