Abstract
The reaction of trifluoroacetic anhydride with noraporphines in pyridine at room temperature gives quantitatively N-trifluoroacetamides, from which the original secondary amines can be recovered easily through mild alkaline hydrolysis. Under the same reaction conditions, aporphines are totally transformed into several products, the major compound being the N-trifluoroacetyl derivative of the corresponding methyl-aminoethylphenanthrene. The application of N-trifluoroacetylation to the separation of noraporphine and aporphine alkaloids is discussed.
