Significance

Regioselective ring-opening of epoxides with amines (1 equiv) was performed with an alumina-supported Zn(ClO4) at r.t. for 1-3 h to give the corresponding β-amino alcohols in 85-95% yield (14 examples). The Zn catalyst was prepared by mixing Zn(ClO4)·6H2O and neutral alumina in water followed by calcinations at 250 °C. The zinc catalyst was reused twice in the ring-opening amination with slight loss of catalytic activity.
