Present trends of single photon radionuclide tomography

Summary

Single photon computed emission tomography (SPECT) offers additional clinical data, not available by any other techniques. Whilst difficulties with the design of the ideal instrumentation persist, and problems with the accurate reconstruction of tomograms require more elaborate algorithms, its future as a clinical tool appears promising.

Die Einzelphotonen-Emissionscomputertomographie liefert zusätzliche klinische Daten, die mit keiner anderen Technik erhältlich sind. Während nach wie vor Schwierigkeiten hinsichtlich der Wahl der idealen Instrumentation bestehen, insbesondere was deren Konstruktion anbetrifft, und ausführlichere Algorithmen zur genauen Rekonstruktion der Tomogramme erforderlich sind, scheint die Methode doch ein zukunftweisendes klinisches Hilfsmittel zu werden.
